Boondock Sports gives people plenty of opportunities to flex their “weekend warrior” muscle by attending one of our events or joining one of our leagues.

Some friendly competition makes special moments in your life even more fun and memorable. Here are some ways you can incorporate Boondock Sports into your next event.

1.Parties (Birthday, Bachelor/Bachelorette, etc.)
Whether it’s a kids birthday party or a grown-up gathering, sports competitions are perfect when everyone is in a celebratory mood. If you have a birthday that is during a warm-weather time of the year, organize a fun kickball or flag football game. For winter birthdays, a pick-up game of basketball gets the competitive juices flowing. For even more fun, if you have enough people to field four teams or more, we can arrange a mini tournament! 

2.Company Outings
Nothing builds the cohesiveness of a team like working together to achieve a goal, fueled by some competition! A softball game is a timeless classic, and if you need to unleash some of that pent-up aggression, how about a game of dodgeball? Where else can you hurl objects at your co-workers and not have to take a trip to human resources after it?

3.Wedding Receptions
Create a new tradition during that spring or summer outdoor wedding by letting us set up some backyard games! Speeches, toasts, and dancing is great, but create a memorable event for you guests by arranging a cornhole tournament, or just let people play casually. It’s sure to be a good time!

Many adults have fond memories of playing youth sports as a child.

The excitement and camaraderie are lessons we learn on the ballfield and take with us into our adult years. Our parents liked that it got us out of the house for fresh air and exercise.

However, just because we are no longer children doesn’t mean that we cannot still enjoy recreational sports. We want to point out four benefits to joining an adult sports league.

1. Keeps Us Moving
In our busy lives, it can be hard to find time to exercise, but adult sports leagues are an easy way to get a couple hours of activity into your week. Of course, this depends on the activity – basketball is going to work up more of a sweat than cornhole, for example.

2. Widens Your Social Circle
It gets harder to meet people as we get older, especially ones with common interests. An adult sports league will naturally connect you with people that share a love of the particular activity that you’re signing up for. Uniting for a common goal of winning a game builds camaraderie, and many teams take part in postgame trips to a restaurant or bar to keep conversation and good times rolling away from the playing field.

3. Could Help You Get Ahead at the Office
Many adult sports league teams are fielded by companies. Joining one of these teams can connect you with people in your company that you may have otherwise not had the chance to meet. Many times, a supervisor or member of management will play on a team, get to know an employee/teammate, and promote that person.

4. Strengthens Your Mental Health
With so many obligations to family and work, it’s tough to forget that we all need a little “me time” every now and then. Signing up for an adult sports league will give you that outlet. Returning to an activity that you were successful at in your childhood could also provide a confidence boost if you can channel some of that skill and excel in that sport many years later.

In the last few years, cornhole has grown from a fun backyard sport to something much more competitive. Getting a 6-inch bag into a 6-inch hole from 27-feet away wasn't meant to be easy, but if you’re serious about making your way to the top of one of our cornhole leagues in central MA, the following tips should help get you there.
 
1. Aiming
 
It's natural to assume that you will get the best results if you aim directly for the hole. Most pros will tell you this is a mistake. Use that large area of the board below the hole to your advantage. It's a much bigger target, easier to land a bag on, and when you do land a hit, there is a good chance the bag will slide right on up and into the hole. If you shoot directly for the hole, odds are you're going to miss.
 
2. Prepare the Bag for Throwing
 
Throwing the bag as soon as you pick it up won't always give you the best results. Instead, you want to prepare the bag first by flattening it out to giving it some aerodynamic properties (think Frisbee). A bag landing flat on the board will also be more likely to slide into the hole.
 
3. Throwing Tips
 
Don't just lob the bag but put some spin on it; pancake style, not end-over-end. You may be tempted to add spin using a similar method to throwing a Frisbee (flicking the wrist), but that won't work quite as well. Instead, keep your arm nice and straight and use the ends of your fingers to add the spin as the bag leaves your hand.
 
4. Master the Four Cornhole Shots
 
Master the four cornhole shots: the slider, airmail, push, and blocker. We've already explained above how the slider works, see tip #1. The blocker is designed to land just in front of the hole and "block" your opponent from using a slider. You use a push shot when you want to nudge your own bag into the hole. Airmail is the cornhole equivalent of basketball's "nothin' but net.” You will need to master this shot for those times when your opponent successfully lands a well-placed blocker.
